Paris 2024: An Olympic level Armchair Olympics
Due to the timing of my (s)unemployment, the fact I already had access to Discovery+ as one of my many, many TV packages and the fact that the timezone was perfect I watched more Olympics coverage than I ever have before - albeit I almost totally avoided the athletics, the swimming, anything with horses, boats or weapons.
My highlights were - in no particular order;
- The breakdancing (apart from the Aussie lady who demonstrated zero respect for the culture)
- The parks skating - especially the women and the old guys (go Sky! plus the whole duck story)
- The mens Rugby 7s with France winning and superhuman DuPont starring.
- The deejay at the beach volleyball cooling tempers with a bit of John Lennon and a crowd singalong
- Noah 'World champions of what?!" Lyles winning the 100m in a photo finish
- Simone Biles being the GOAT (and also seemingly a lovely human)
- The 3x3 basketball - which is ROUGH. Elbows, hip-checks - not for the weak hearted.
- The amazing photo (and the whale photobombing the surfing)
- The USA having to work so hard for their gold in the basketball and seeing Steph Curry just shoot the lights out in the final
- All the behind the scenes stuff from the athletes on Insta, TikTok etc. The obsession with the chocolate muffins, collecting the team pins (and Andy Murray being obsessed), the terrible bedrooms and cardboard beds, how star struck so many of the athletes were with other athletes.
- Snoop and Flav being all over the show!
Not sure what I am going to do with my time next week but thanks Paris - it has been fun (from the comfort of my armchair).
